AIS Region 18 Fall Regional
October 5 and 6, 2018
Meeting to be Held at: Remington Nature Center
1502 McArthur Drive, St. Joseph, MO 64506 PH: (816) 271-5499
Hosted by
The Pony Express Iris Society
Judges’ Training by
Bonnie Nichols
Bonnie Nichols is the owner, along with her husband Hooker, of Hillcrest Iris Gardens in Dallas TX. She and Hooker, are both avid hybridizers of Tall Bearded and Louisiana Iris. Her seedling, now registered as ‘Cha Cha Cha’, a TB space age rebloomer, was awarded the Zurbrigg-Mahon Cup for best seedling at the AIS Convention in 2017.

Bonnie has been an AIS judge for over 25 years and in 2013 was awarded Emeritus Judge status for her service in "all things" Iris. She has held numerous positions in local, regional, and national societies and is the founder of the AIS Novelty Iris section. She travels extensively to give programs on Iris throughout the nation.

The Fall Regional meeting will begin at 5:30 pm Friday October 5 with registration. Bonnie Nichols will begin her presentation ‘Looking Forward, Looking Back’ at 6:30 pm
Following her presentation there will be an executive board meeting which everyone is welcome to attend. If you choose not to do so, the Remington Center has a variety of interesting exhibits. Woolly mammoths welcoming you at the door, birds, fish, a large Indian artifact collection and a model of historic Saint Joseph to name a few. The Pony Express Iris Society has donated many plants and labor to the center so hopefully there will still be something of interest for you to see.
On Saturday we will reconvene at 8:30 am with judges’ training beginning at 9:00 am. This will be a two hour training on Novelty Iris, Bonnie has indicated she has lots of photos, followed by the Region 18 general meeting. One of the agenda items will be election of officers. After our break for lunch, instead of taking a nap, we will have a plant auction. We will welcome cash or checks.
The Red Lion Hotel located at 102 S 3rd St (816) 279-8000 is the closest hotel, though others can be found that are probably not more then 10 to 15 minutes away. Rush hour traffic on Saturday morning is probably nonexistent in our fair city. I hope many of our regional members will be able to attend!
